Imagine Cup 2013 Lebanon finals took place over a period of two days filled with excitement. The event saw more than 90 participating students and 30 different teams from 10 universities from Lebanon.

On Monday, 15th of April 2013, on a full day packed with enthusiasm, all participating teams were invited to present their projects over two rounds to a panel of judges including business leaders, academic professors and representatives of Lebanese media and NGOs.

Overview of the top 6 projects presented

After Round 1 where all teams were done presenting their projects, the judges went on to decide which six teams out of 30 are to qualify to Round 2. It certainly was a hard decision due to the great quality of projects.

Team Superheroes, World Citizenship – AUB
Carpooling – the effective way to overcome traffic congestion and reducing the amount of CO2 emitted. Creating an organized and interactive portal on Windows 8 that connects people together to share a ride.

Team MF, Games – AUB
Developing an interactive game on Windows Phone that targets and provides the chance  to educate the younger generations of Lebanese immigrants their mother language (Arabic).

Team E-Step, Innovation – BAU
Invenio is a new technology used to teach students at schools and other institutes, programming & electronic skills in a new, simple and effective manner.

Team Lets Volunteer, World Citizenship – BAU
A portal on Windows Phone to connect NGOs and volunteers, where volunteers can follow a number of NGOs and get involved in all the available activities and events.

Team Desert Noodles, Games – AUB
A 3D action/puzzle game set in the future where humanity no longer exists. The planet is ruled by machines and nature is trying to fight back. The sole duty is to balance the planet between nature and machines.

Team Keystroke, Innovation – RHU & BAU
A new biometric modality allowing to recognize users based on the way they type a password by calculating many different factors to provide a secure login by preventing attackers in possession of the credentials from logging in.

The Results Ceremony

On Tuesday, 23^rd of April 2013, Microsoft Lebanon held a results ceremony to announce the winners and the National Team for Imagine Cup 2013 Lebanon finals. The day started off with Hoda Younan, Country Manager welcoming the teams and guests while discussing the future of IT Industry and the role that the youth must play for building a better future. Amongst the guests were Sponsors, IT Professionals, Judges, MS Employees, students and their professors.

The three teams demonstrated and demoed their projects to the audience showing off the great products they built over. Team Keystroke also won the title of the National team, thus earning a chance to represent their home country at the Imagine Cup 2013 Worldwide Finals to be held in July in St. Petersburg, Russia.

By the end of the day, the teams received their prizes consisting of trophies, Nokia Lumia 920 devices, travel and accommodation vouchers from the sponsor KurbanTravel and a free 1 month and 3 months incubation program voucher from Berytech.
